Sitting

Body:

Christine,
One question for you! How do you sit in the car? I put a pillow in the middle of my back and I think this helps me keep a good sitting position. I also tipped my bike seat down in the front. What do you think of these ideas. Nancy

Hi Nancy
Brigid here, I also put a folded small cushion in the arch of my back sitting at my computer and on the sofa to get a good sitting position, it also eases the backache I sometimes suffer from, since starting to practice the standing/walking posture. I have just began doing the exercises and I have visited a lady in England who performed the Mayan massage on me and showed me how to do the self care so between everything I hope to beat the surgeons and save my uterus etc. I check in to the forum every day and continue to learn from everybody. Thanks Christine, Nancy and all
Brigid

Hi Brigid, I have one of those kneeling chairs that came out in the 80s. This, I think gives me the right posture for the computer. I am glad to see you are in better spirits now. I've got to say when I first found out about my prolapse I was really in the dumps like you! My family notices that I'm feeling better also. I just went for a 1/2 mile walk in the moonlight. The temp here is 80 and muggy, so I waited until the sun went down. That was the first walking I've done since I was diagnosed with prolapse. I've exercised almost every day, but mostly Christine's and the ones the therapist gave me. My exercises started about the end of March and I do really believe things are getting better already. Keep working on it, Nancy

Hi Nancy
Well done with the half mile walk, I find it hard to walk also since discovering the prolapse, the problem is I feel my bladder is full all the time, I think it is the uterus leaning on the bladder or pulling it down also, but I do find an improvement with the correct posture, I sometimes forget about my bladder, also the dragging sensation comes on very quickly once I start on a walk, but I try to get even a short walk every day. Talking about the bladder, when I flew to England, I couldn't urinate at all when I got off the plane, it lasted for about 24 hours. I find this problem when I fly recently, obviously something to do with the prolapse. I wonder if Christine or yourself have any tips to combat this. It is quite frightening, I visualise myself being carted off to hospital and cathederised (is that a word)! I find when I lie down in bed for about an hour, I can go then but when I am travelling it is not always possible. Thanks for any tips.
Brigid

Hi Nancy and Brigid,

Yes, a small pillow at the lumbar spine is about the best we can do while driving. I keep my seat cranked up pretty straight and try to maintain the upper body position. Regarding the bike seat, here

Christine, as usual, you gave a wonderful response. I would like to add that I just finished a 40 mile "fat" tire ride (along with 5,000 other bikers) and I had no discomfort. I ride with a "dolce" seat which is made for women and that along with the posture which I tried to faithfully sustain allowed me to finish this ride with no adverse effects. My stance on my mountain bike reflects the "V" position you were discussing and I am aware while riding that my bladder seems to be resting in the proper position. I am thankful for your posts.:7

Hi Brigid,

It's such an awful feeling when you can't urinate. Here are two ideas that might help you. With a little patience, both work for me, although the second is probably better with prolapse:

1. Gently press and release the soft area of your belly just above the pubic bone several times.

2. Between your fingers, grasp some flesh just above the pubic bone and gently draw it forward and upward.

I hope one of these works for you!

Just realised from your profile that you are male, what do you know about prolapse and relieving bladder problems????? I thought this forum is about women helping fellow sufferers, what is the point in your interest in this forum. Christine, were you aware of this?? I'm shocked!!

Thank you so much for your tips, I will try them out next time I get the "closed urethra" problem, and I'm sure one of them will work. I walked to the pub and back last night with my husband about quarter of a mile (in the posture of course) and I was fine (no pressure on the bladder). I sat in the pub for the first time in the posture for about 2 hours and felt fine, just as relaxed as slouching, it is becoming easier all the time. I read your messages when I got home and went to bed laughing, I thought it better to wait until today to reply, the three glasses of wine went to my head, I normally drive and only have one at most! We all need a good laugh and we can enjoy life even with our prolapses, I hope we all meet some day, maybe to celebrate our 5th or 10th birthday as "prolapsees without surgery". That should be fun.
So glad to have made your aquaintances, the net is wonderful....

Hi Brigid, I have been away from my favorite place for awhile! Here!!I've had my grandson for a few days! We go biking, and yes I did have my hubby tip my seat forward and I rode without any discomfort! Please, Brigid, practice that pee technique that Mare told about. I found it in picture in Christine's book and have been doing it ever since.
My family is from Ireland, don't know where, and I always wanted to visit there. I take my Mom to as many Irish festivities as I can find around here. Dad used to take us girls to the "Pub" every once in awhile and we'd have a soda pop. That would be nice to have a face to face talk someday with all that have similiar problems (prolapse). I'm not much of a traveler though and probably couldn't go that far. We gone to see "Riverdance" and oh my gosh it was wonderful.
I noticed in one of your letters that you have checked on the profiles! Good for you! Talk later, Nancy

Hi Nancy
Good for you, going bicycling with your grandson, I'm afraid the Dublin traffic is just too scary to cycle around here, the only bike I use is the exercise bike which I don't use enough, it is so boring cyling like mad and getting nowhere! Glad you liked Riverdance, I have seen it too, very energetic. When I suggested a union of us prolapsees, I meant I would go to America, there are more of you over there so it would make sense for me to make the trip accross the Atlantic. I like to travel but in the last year it is difficult because of my little problem but I try not to let it interfere too much with my life. I have cousins in America which I only discovered in the last ten years and they have been to Ireland and I have been to the U.S. three times to visit them, they are very welcoming. I am probably being naughty chit chatting on this site instead of keeping my mind on the business. Slap my wrist Christine. In school I was always in trouble for talking, I never changed!!:-)

Brigid~

There is nothing "naughty" about chit chatting and sharing one's daily life. After all, the world does not revolve around prolapses, and we shouldn't either. It is a bit of a nuisance, but otherwise not a major life altering experience.
