Incontinence while lying down

Body:

Hello. I felt pretty good after the birth of my daughter, but around 12 weeks post partum, likely Duden to improper exercise too soon and too fast, I started having some incontinence (mainly urge). The PT said my bladder was a bit low, and pelvic floor is weak and of course prescribed Kegels. Through yoga and better posture, it's much better (my daughter is now 6 months), but I still have some issues at night, and I feel like I have to pee a lot of the night. Are there any resources, tips, etc for incontinence when lying in bed/sleeping? Thanks!

I'm not sure how long you have been working on WW posture, but I was having to get up sometimes 5+ times a night to pee. It was terrible. I've been doing WW since March, and I can now go an entire night without having to get up and pee, and I attribute it to the posture work of this program. I have a diagnosed rectocele, but my gyno said my bladder actually bulges more when she had me push to check it. I think it was pretty mild, but I did have this issue with night peeing. No idea why it was always so much worse at night.

Natural postpartum healing as well as the whole woman work may be enough to get you back to a better place, but if the incontinence continues, you may want to look into Christine's Urinary Incontinence program. She has these pee on pee off exercises that are just fabulous and highly recommended by some of our ladies that come to the forum.

Thanks for the ideas. Last night, I only peed once. It of course depends on my baby's sleep. I'm wondering if there are WW posture tips or sleep positions. I still leak just a little at night. Thanks!

Hi Sundk and welcome,
It actually doesn't matter how we lie down, because the real work of getting our pelvic organs pinned into the lower belly is when we are up and moving about with the help of belly breathing and the intra-abdominal pressure. This dynamic along with the postpartum healing will help with the frequent need to urinate also.
The whole woman work can help you to get a better understanding of all this.
Can you tell us a little more about yourself and what you have been experiencing?

Thanks for the continued replies! I'm six months post partum, but I didn't start leaking until 12wks post partum likely bc I pushed exercise too intensely. I still hike my dog wearing my baby daily, and I do a lot of Iyengar yoga. I'm not leaking with hiking or randomly during the day for the most part now. When I'm lying down though in bed, I'm still leaking regularly. Early this morning was especially bad. I tend to sleep on my side, but a little on back. It's as if something about being in bed pushes pee out. The first time it ever happened I was in bed. I tend to leak when I have to pee and shortly after I pee, but only in bed. Thanks for any advice! I'm so frustrated.

I forgot to mention that I'm often awake when the leaking happens. Thanks!

Hi Sundk,
There are many options for you to start with as well as excellent postpartum programs with this work, that will help strengthen your body into posture, lessening the need to pee. You can also look into the Urinary Incontinence video as it is very comprehensive in the information needed in this area. It also has these pee on pee off exercises that have received great praise from many of our ladies.
