Trouble urinating after TVT SPARC procedure

Body:

I had a TVT prcedure on 1/30/07. I have not been able to sit on the toilet and urinate since the procedure. Oddly, I can urinate fine sitting in my van or on a chair in my house. I had my urethra dialated last Wed. (no fun at all) and my dr. says it will get better, but quality of life now SUCKS. I self cath for the most part.

Any experience out there? I'm about to have this thing taken out....

just wondering

I don't know much about the TVT or why you are having trouble. I'm going to guess that the angle of your bladder and urethra are now different, and the muscles that you used to use are possibly altered due to stitching, scarring and the like.

while the female form is pretty much the same from woman to woman, the specific form that prolapse takes varies and is probably related to the way a woman stands, uses her body and genetic predisposition. all the moreso when a surgeon goes in and changes things, I'd imagine at that point women are as alike as snowflakes.

try urinating in different positions. while most of the women here have not had surgery, there have been many ideas on how to best empty a prolapsed bladder. you can try urinating on all fours, or squatting over the toilet (facing the tank). whatever you do, try your best not to strain, you don't want to cause any further prolapse (same goes for bowel movements).

I'm sorry you're having trouble now, I do hope things get better for you.

It is a minor surgery that places a mesh type sling under your urethea to help with SUI. I had a hyst. three years ago to tuck everything up, bladder, rectal, etc. but stress incontinence still continues. Now today I'd gladly go back to SUI. This is awful and I'll probably end up having it removed.
