Does anyone else get this?

Body:

Hi, I haven't posted for a while, think the gremlins are prompting me that it's time, but I've been reading everything that has been going on. Thing is, I seem to have a mild to moderate prolapse but at different times. I mean when it's "mild" I don't have any symptoms at all, not even a bulge, but when it's "moderate" I know things have dropped cos I do get a bulge although not a big one. The times it drops I notice are when I get up in the morning but after I've been upright and moving around for a while it goes again. Then if I put my feet up, lying or sitting back, it comes again when I get up. Then goes again after a while. If I walk and it is there to start with, it goes after a few minutes, so I like to walk for that reason. Thing is, it seems that I have to live with this situation, that is, I think it is as good as it is going to get. If it doesn't get any worse I think I could live with it for the rest of my life. It's just that the up and down thing is a bit disconcerting - I try not to obsess, but I keep thinking, why doesn't it stay up all the time??? Why does it go up and down all the time??? Oh well, perhaps I have to be happy when it's up, and annoyed when it's down. Great fun!!!
Cheers,
Wendy

Hi Wenz

Yes, I get that too, but not on as predictable a basis as you describe. "As good as it gets" is probably what I will be happy with too.

I think it probably happens because when we get up we use our abdominal muscles quite a bit, and getting up will increase intraabdominal forces for a bit, pushing down on the pelvic floor, until we are in our new upright position. Also we are often sitting back or lying down before we get up, so all our organs kind of flop forward as we stand.

Everything in our bodies needs to adjust to a new equilibrium when we become upright, so it is probably predictable that the first few minutes upright are an adjustment time.

You might be able to shorten the time by consciously letting your belly relax as you rise, so there is a little pozzy in your lower belly, at the front, over your pubic bone where your pelvic organs can get into straight away.

Cheers

Nice to get your reply Louise. What you say sounds right, and it's only a couple of minutes before things "rise" again once i am upright. Another time things drop momentarily is after a BM, but I think I've told you that before. I would be really happy if things stayed the same permanently (or got better) - it's just not knowing if things will eventually get worse that is the nagging question. If I'd been more careful about not straining on the loo I might never have even got a prob with POP at all - that was my ignorance more than anything and of course my mother never told me to watch these things even though she'd had a severe prolapse herself.

Oh well. It's good that I'm taking care of myself now anyway. I'm in New Zealand and there is quite a pro-surgery culture here too.

Cheers,
Wendy

Hi Wendy,
This happens with me too - My cystocele bulge is always worse when I'm at home all day and up and down every 5 minutes running after the little ones. I noticed that if I go for a short walk iusing the posture, it actually feels better than spending time sitting/resting and short bursts of activity. I thought I was going mad at first as surely (I thought) things should be better if I'm rested sitting down, but nope its better after walking for a while.

I have a beautiful 10 wk old baby boy and a wonderful 2 and a half yr old daughter who make it all worth while :-)

Thanks for letting me know your experience. I think my cystocele is my worst prolapse although I never got told by my doc what I had or how bad it was. So I'm guessing. Even so, none of them give me much trouble really. Yes, interesting isn't it, you'd think that resting would be good for your prolapse but it isn't as good as moving around or walking. I am currently thinking about full time work which involves travel to and from work (about 40 mins each way). I don't know how that situation will impact on the prolapse problem. I'm not even sure if it's a good move from my current situation which allows me to work from home. Only snag is, the work isn't always there and am left twiddling my thumbs in the down times. Can't win really, there's a down side to nearly everything. Your baby boy and girl will be keeping you busy, my youngest (I have two daughters) is nearly 14 years old. So I'm really grandmother material these days - although no grandkids as yet.
