Walking with prolapse

Body:

Hello,

Still a bit green here, but I might as well take advantage of the expertise of "my sisters". I'm not sure if this is a lifestyle or bodywork post, but... I'm 51, have a stage 2 cystocele and uterine prolapses... tried a pessary last week to aide in helping me completely empty my bladdar. Very minor stress incontinence, but only if my bladder if very full.

I was very heavy much of my life... three years ago, I changed my diet completely eliminating processed foods, caffine, dairy and meat. I lost over 60 pounds in 18 months and have maintained the loss... joined a gym to tone and lose about 25 more pounds. I am now a size 14 and try to exercise daily (walk 3-4 miles, light weight machines, yoga, etc.) Since my weight loss, I developed the prolapse (perhaps my fat was helping hold things in place :-)

When I removed the pessary, my prolapse seemed much worse. I could actually see my cervix and got extremely anxious... cried... the gamut of emotions. I go back to the urogyn this week to try something else. In the meantime, I've stalled working with weights, but want to maintain my walking... is this all right to do? I did Christine's workout this morning as well. Any advice?

Personally I have found due to my mother using a pessary that once you use them alot you sem to be tied to them for life (Thats what her gyno said to her)

I have all 3 prolapses and I find that weight loss has not affected them (since having them have at one time lost 105lbs then after being very unwell with MS I have now lost about 50lbs or so (Luckily I didnt put on all of that 105lbs again) i still wanna lose weight and as I am now disabled I use a treadmill to walk it off. In using this I find that walking at a bigger incline and with a slower gait does nothing to my prolapse and I used to do step aerobics with no prolapse issues either.

If you are walking I suggest you try the above the slower gait helps you to maintain posture and also make sure you walk lightly (meaning do not slam / stamp the feet t the floor.

Befored I had a Dr RAM a pessary into me I only was dx with a uterine prolase and now I have all three! I would say when walking keep posture in mind. It should help support your prolapse as you move :)

I have a severe cystocele and still go the the gym 6 days a week. I take 3 strength training classes, a step class, and 2 cardio classes. I wear a V-2 supporter while working out. I was fortunate enough to have built up my upper body strength before my prolapse worsened, as you may have also. If that is the case, strength training should not be a problem. I try to maintain the posture at all times. Walking is fine - just keep the posture. Good luck -
