SHE WANTS TO CUT OUT MY UTERUS

Body:

Hi All,

I have been reading on the site for a month now. Christine really got my attention when I ask a question about using estrace cream. I thought, you know she is right and I had never really question my doctor why I was using it. Since that day I have come to this site just about everyday and have educated my self by all of your posts, and some good information.
I have recently move to another state and I guess I was preparing myself for my visit to the GYN and boy, am I glad I did.I have a rectocle(stage 3) and just discover cystocle (stage 2).
She assure me that I would eventuality have the BIG H surgery and that she would cut out my uterus and put mesh in me to hold up my prolapes. There is nothing wrg with my uterus. I have had it for 62 yrs. and plan on keeping it. She said it may not be this year or next year but I would someday be back in her office and say I was ready for the surgery. With the information here, the DVD, Christine's book and the exercies, using all of this I plan on never visiting her office again.............. Thanks to Christine, her knowledgeable ladies, and this site. I'll continue reading the good information and continue doing the excercies and whatever else it takes to take control of these prolapes..... Maxxie

Hi Maxxie. That sounds almost verbatim what my gynecologist told me. He wanted to do the hysterectomy and repair, I flat refused, he assured me then within a year or two I would be "needing" it for certain. To make a long story short, I just simply informed him he isn't removing my uterus PERIOD, EVER, and may we please try a pessary instead? He agreed to that as a "temporary" measure until I "saw the light" and came back for my hysterectomy.

Well a year or two later I go back and tell him I am very pleased with myself - I've stabilized, and plan to continue what I'm doing now indefinitely and still plan never to allow him to do a hysterectomy. To my pleasant surprise he AGREED with me. He told me, you are right; you have not gotten any worse and I think the odds are you may never get any worse. If you are happy managing it right now then I wouldn't mess with that and risk major surgery. I'm behind you 100%.

So I think the gynos give you a party line. If you stick to your guns you can let them know you're gonna be an exception and not go along with the party mantra. You don't necessarily have to fire the gyno for it, if they are open minded and see things your way after a while. But I'm sure there are others who won't ever come around.

Hi Maxxie

Me too. You know, AnneH is right. You don't have to fire the gyno. They don't have a magic button that they can press to release anaesthetic from the door jamb as you flee the surgery, and operate on you like aliens, releasing you back into the waiting room two weeks later with no uterus, a hot cappucino and a mellow look on your dial. They don't have magic powers at all, not even to cure prolapse and make you "as good as new". Here, we all know that. ;-)

The trouble is that it makes you feel very vulnerable when a person in an expensive suit tells you quite dispassionately that s/he can solve your problem. All they require in payment is some money and *your uterus*.

While reading your post my mind wandered to the film of The Little Mermaid, where Ursula the sea witch offered to give Arielle legs instead of a tail, so she could follow her human beloved onto land, then rose up in all her horrible, noisy, swirling, purpleness and bellowed that all it would cost her was her prize possession, her lovely voice that mermaids use to lure sailors. I saw that film at the age of about 40, and that part scared the bejeezers out of me. (I imagine my kids will remember it for life too!)

What Arielle showed and probably felt was what I felt when the (not my) gyno said the same as yours said to you. I said no thanks, don't call me, I'll call you. I had just started Wholewoman methods at the time, and he just smirked as he glanced at the book. That was the last I saw of him three years ago, and I am not going back. Irrational, I know, but I have no need to.

Fortunately in Australia we use our family doctors for our annual PAP smears, and have Well Women's Days once a year or so, at our hospital, for all the other bits of women's health stuff. We also have a PAP smear registry and a mammogram registry that send you a letter when you are due, so I have no need to establish a regular rapport with a gyno.

Sadly, these gynos don't seem to understand how important an unaltered vagina and uterus are to many women, let alone their structural roles. I felt as if I was being treated like an eight year old instead of an intelligent, educated, aware woman! It is like telling a surfer that they will have to have their leg amputated near the hip to prevent an infected coral laceration on the knee from turning gangrenous and claiming their life. Wrong, these are not easy wounds to treat, but we have other ways of doing it with rest, antibiotics, dressings and other materials etc! It is the *gyno* who comes out of his/her cave looking ignorant, patronising and behind the times! Not the sort of person you would want to trust with your body parts! They are only discrediting themselves in the process and putting obstacles in the way of their customers returning. Everybody in sales knows that your existing customers are the easiest to keep and your best advertisements. Guess what?

Luckily there are always other gynos out there, and if Christine is right, the tide may be starting to change. I think I am seeing evidence just on this Forum of more women over the last six months reporting favourable experiences re the non-need for surgery from their gynos. I hope so, because many women do not have the wherewithall to say no to their doctor or the knowledge to know that they can, or why they should. These women are the ones who will suffer if this surgical mutilation continues. (Whoops, I am starting to sound like somebody from PETA. As a lamb producer this is not good!)

Anyway, I'm glad that AnneH was more level-headed under pressure than I was. I just fled. AnneH obviously has a much better, ongoing relationship with her gyno than I had with a once-off visit to the one I used. Take Ann's example if you have a goody.

Cheers

Louise
