HELP - Surgery tomorrow

Body:

I am having surgery tomorrow for my uterine prolapse and am scared to death. I need to hear from someone who has been through the surgery. I have 4 children and 2 of them are not in school. The younger ones are 17 months and almost 3. Part of me wants to have the surgery asap. The other part of me wants to delay the surgery. The part that scares me the most is not being able to care for my children. They are all over me and I am constantly lifting them. Even simple things will become impossible for at least 3 months....lifting in and out of the tub, in and out of the car, in and out of kitchen chairs, etc. I need some advice. Should I delay the surgery until they are older. Has anyone lived through the surgery with small children that can give me some advice??? I wish I would have found this site sooner. HELP!

sounds like you are not quite ready for the surgery. Until you can sit peacefully with your decision don't do it. You can't go back. Hey, I'm managing my prolapse with out surgery and you can too if you want. You found this site at just the right time- before it was too late. Reschedule, it will be there for you when if you want it. 17 months is early days yet- you body can heal more and more.

If any part of you is screaming Nooooooooooo
Then LISTEN

Spend an evening reading this site - Learn how to manage this problem surgery-free!

Alot of us here have no problems now with our prolapses and we have not had any surgery!

Delaying it will give you that time to get into posture - And more than likely not even need the surgery in the end!

Remember - Now YOU hold the key to your life - If posture doesn't work - You still hold the key... AFTER surgery - Your keys have been taken away and your road is changed permanently...

Deep breaths - Breatheeeeeeeeeeee - read and take it all in...

Impliment a small change in your life (Nothing complicated) And reap the rewards - You have nothing to lose!

Time is something you ill gain and then you will be able to sort things out - We can all help :-)

I came here with the prolapse being a daily problem. Three months after arriving here - I didnt eve really think about it - No longer was it a constant problem in my life :-)

Take time
Think
Read
Take it all in

DELAY and reap the benefits WholeWoman can give to you :-)

Why are you having the surgery? Is your condition life threatening? A major nuisance? Somewhere in between? Only you can answer those questions. But if you answer “a major nuisance,” I would caution you to slow down enough to make a careful, thoughtful, informed decision. You can only cross this bridge once. Do you know what is waiting for you on the other side?

I am very, very new to this forum and I am not qualified to council anyone, but in my short presence here I have found that there is deep and profound wisdom to be gained from these wonderful women. Please, if you possibly can, give yourself time to read and learn from them. The difference between what I know now and what I knew three weeks ago boggles my mind.

How blessed you are to have your babies. Set the timer for a half-hour, play with your babies and give yourself a break from thinking about this for a bit. Sometimes a tiny respite helps to bring clarity.

Wishing you all the best, Kit

It's entirely up to you of course, but you might find with the youngest at only 17 months that you've still got some healing to do before looking at surgery as an option. I don't know how badly you are feeling but my daughter is now 2 and a half and I am still feeling improvements with my POP, so I think it takes at least 2 years, maybe more, for the body to heal to its best ability.

On lifting the kids, I stopped lifting my daughter at all by around 18 months. I taught her to climb into her car seat, into her stroller, into her cot using a chair, onto a bucket to wash her hands, onto my lap for a cuddle. I think not lifting the kids will definitely help a great deal. My daughter and I have loads of cuddles and kisses but I don't need to lift her at all. The more you get them doing it themselves the quicker they'll gain the strength too. At first I had to give my daughter a little help, push her bottom up, or lift her leg for her but even that is much less pressure on the body than fully lifting. I hope that's helpful info.

Good luck, there's plenty of great advice on living with POP on this site and in Christine's book.

Wow I wish I'd seen this yesterday. Do let us know what you decided!

I decided to have the surgery. It was on 10/24. Originally, the surgeon was most likely going to use mesh to correct my uterine prolapse and also take off part of my uterus (she said it was unusually elongated). Once she was in there, she said she only had to use sutures and it wasn't as bad as she thought it was. I wish she would have known that before! I am taking one day at a time and trying to heal from the surgery. Only time will tell if I made the right decision or not. I am 38 years old with 4 children. I couldn't imagine living my life with the prolapse at first. I did for a year though and was getting used to it. Sometimes I thought it was getting better....sometimes not. This is a wonderful website for women going through this. I only wish I would have found it before. Will keep you posted on my progress.

I'm 21 and a mommy of 2, and I opted to have the surgery as well back in May, I wish you the best of luck in healing I know how uncomfortable you can be at first... it can be rather difficult with 2 small ones to do what is necessary to heal... I urge you to avoid lifting your babies... it hurts more to tear the repair than the prolapse itself :-/

Thank you for all the posts. It has been almost 2 weeks since the surgery. The healing is slow but I am getting better day by day. I ran into some bleeding one week post op. It happened 4-5 times where I was bleeding bright red blood. The bleeding stopped so the doctor said it was a normal part of healing. I hope so. I am trying to really take it easy but with 4 kids it's a little hard. Thanks again for all your kind words. Joanna
