Varicose Veins too?

Body:

Dear Christine,

I am hopeful you are available to answer this question. I've had a rough summer with various things going wrong. I caught a bug and coughed til everything just went haywire, which caused the connective tissue to tighten. My back went out of whack in several places, then the tissue tightening caused my ankle to sprain itself! Seriously! Twice! Even getting into posture was almost impossible. My hips were off quite a bit and the POP was really the worst it's ever been. To top it off, veins in my left leg starting swelling and looks like varicose veins. In searching that topic, only one of two things seems like it would apply to me. That of weak veins because of chemo or weight of the uterus while pregnant. Since I'm way past even the thought of a pregnancy, is it possible the POP is pressing on a vein in the pelvic region causing the veins in the leg to swell? I didn't find anything in your book referencing that but wondered if that is a possibility. I'm not worried about a serious underlying cause here (although I know there are certain things I have to watch out for) and I will have my yearly physical with the cardiologist in a month or so. Besides all that, three treatments with the chiropractor seemed to make a huge difference in the veins and the POP. Unfortunately, a week later, my hips went out again and the same thing is going on with the legs and POP. Problem is that fabulous chiro is 3 hours away and is almost a wasted trip because sitting that long in the car aggravates my hips.

Love and blessings,
Grandma Joy

Dear Grandma Joy,

I'm so sorry to hear that you're having a rough time and think your cardiologist will be the best one to shed light on this.

We've really seen zero correlation between prolapse and varicosities in this population - and many of us have severe prolapse.

It could be just one little valve anywhere in the leg and I'm not sure they even have a way of diagnosing or finding that one valve.

Anyway, once the cardiologist rules out anything more serious your best bets will be massage, posture, gentle exercise and all the healthy lifeways you already practice. Deep, calm breathing is especially helpful because the negative pressure created by deep inspiration is one of the mechanisms that pulls up and returns blood from feet to heart!

Please know how much we care and are waiting to hear how things are with you in the coming weeks.

Love and hugs,

Christine

Grandma Joy, your words have been such a support to me the last year and I am thinking of you and hoping you will be feeling better soon.

Hi

mine came at the same time too - thought the veins aren't so bad and haven't gotten worse.

I read in some book exactly what you said prolapse and veins connection for the reason's you suggested, but i can't remember where exactly, perhaps in a japenese acupcunture book.

Sorry to hear about the distance you have to go to you're chiro..wish i had a suggestion!

take care

Anne-helen

Bluesky - Christine responded at length to this inquiry regarding varicose veins. Maybe someone else with experience will come on here and say more. But in the meantime, it might be helpful if you would be a little more detailed with your question. - Surviving
