Prolapsed bladder and vaginal delivery - question

Body:

Hello girls,
I was diagnosed with a prolapsed bladder during my second pregnancy and the culprit for it might have been the long labour and forceps delivery which I had with my first delivery, as well as big baby and constant carrying around.

My prolapse went worse in the end of the first trimester and I had a pessary fitted for 14 weeks which made things really better and bearable.

However, just at the beginning of the third trimester it was removed and things are being a bit tricky at the moment, I felt couple of times the bulging but with some rest it eventually went up later (guess that's the impact of the baby lifting things up).
The grade of the prolapse was never told to me but I guess it might be at least 3 or even 4 at times. I could feel it very well and even see it with a mirror - that's how I discovered it - quite freaking out experience.

I got an examination by an obstetrician and was told I need to deliver naturally - which is OK for me, but because there are lots of people here who have gone through this, could you recommend me things that I need to be careful about during labour please?

I got it the best position to use is he all fours and how about the pushing stage? I am a bit scared I might push my bladder out as well :( although the OB told me it should move aside and not down during pushing (I hope he's right). I know some people don't have problems with the prolapse and natural delivery but am wondering is it really safe with a 3 grade prolapse? Also wondering about pushing out the placenta. Actually the pushing is making me a bit nervous.

I am meeting OB again later this week and will discuss it again, but would like to know what you could say from experience as well.

I am really looking forward to deliver naturally (possibly in water) but I need to be reassured that I can't harm myself while pushing and so I could push the baby out safely and not going into any other complications or instrumental delivery or so...

Could you please share any tips and experience please?

I am due in mid September, so really not much time left now...

Thanks!

Hi - I read this site a long time ago - always kept the url

http://www.mercola.com/2005/nov/3/dont_push_your_baby_out.htm

with my last I pushed only once (poss twice)!
I just waited and waited and then my belly went like concrete and I knew I HAD to push!
So I did - I think it was one push but may have been two - Certainly no more. The midwife kept telling me i could push - But i just breathed through it and refused - LOL

You will be ok!
Worse thing is (my first was forceps which did the damage - my second was fasttttttttt labour - my third was in labour for like 2 days argh) the midwife kinf of pulled on the cord - I willa dmit i asked her to as I was so exhausted, i wish i hadnt! but - evenb after all that my POP is OK! Thanks to this web site.

Hi Honeycomb - there are a number of moms here who have good experience and advice on pregnancy and birthing with prolapse. One thing you can do is to click on the word "forums" under the Navigation section above, and it will bring you to a topic view of the forums where you can more easily search for relevant posts. Use the search box for keywords too. Good luck! - Surviving

Hi Honeycomb,

I'm late to the discussion, but just wanted to let you know I have a prolapsed bladder and uterus and delivered my baby naturally without any problems in late August. My midwives were aware of my prolapse and took care during the third stage (the hospital didn't allow anything other than managed third stage). My labour was fast - I spent a short amount of time upright, some time on my knees and the final pushing stage was on my back (this was my own choice as it was the most comfortable and least exhausting position for me at that time). Only 2 weeks postpartum now but no problems so far.

Hope that helps.
