PT says ww way and THE machine really doing the same

Body:

Very interesting to try to figure out what is what.Louise I got what you ment when you asked if my PT was Tasha.Saw the posts on that and really liked Christine's challenge.I don't think my P.T. is like that.In fact she asked to borrow DVD, witch I will take tomorrow. She says the machine I guess is about relaxing pelvic floor muscles, and yes I think I understand that it can be somantics.I think I will copy pages 81 thu 86 because she said almost word for word re:pumping biceps.I still think they do not see things the same.I just dont want to have my POP, or anything else made worse. She is not defensive, and is ok with my thinking differently. When she explains things it sounds right, but I get confused with theory. She is using the Glasser method with the biofeedback electro machine. The site is www.vulvodynia.com. Glad Christine gave the burning pain the term I had been concerned about on site, and never see.I made copy of compression belt from store, and will make sure I get right size.I asked lady on phone if you can sit with it on,but she was not sure? I really need to know if I can.And I have put on about 30lbs. in last year.Have not been able to walk without pain.Other P.T. said could pull POP down more, reason why referred to current P.T. for short time.I invited P.T. to check out site ,and Christin's blog for more info.Sorry but it wern't for vicodin, and compounded lidocane,I could not even sit to do this, and it time to get off butt.Need to find way to sit,and have to keep pressure off tailbone, and v area.Oh well life an't always perfect.Wish I knew that 20 years ago. Pat

Take care, Pat, and stay connected to the forums. Keep taking the Vicodin and avoid ibuprofen like the plague! If you are not already, AND WITH THE APPROVAL OF YOUR DOCTOR, start taking 600mg of fish oil a day and restrict all foodstuff - particularly oils - from corn, safflower, sunflower, olive, and sesame. Buy the spice tumeric and use a tablespoon a day (preferably half that amount twice a day) in brown rice and vegetable medleys. Use your best judgment about the machine and give it up if it is not helping. Hugs, Christine

Hi Pat

I think the only way you are going to make progress is by understanding what is happening in your body, and I hope you keep seeking that knowledge. Your PT sounds great, but as you say, she does give away her lack of understanding of WW when she makes a comment about exercising the PF muscles being like pumping biceps. However, she is taking it all in. ;-)

There is not doubt about it, taking on another model of female anatomy and reconciling it with what you have been taught is a major ask. Think how long it takes all of us to *truly* get it, and most of us are not constrained by the four years of Uni learning the standard model, which has to be partially unlearned to accept the WW model. Keep encouraging her.

I say stick with the machine, because I cannot see it doing any harm, which is the first barrier to get across. Be aware of the hype that goes with the website, and that it might just be hype. You may not get the benefit that you are hoping for, but you might. The proof will be in the pudding. :-) I certainly couldn't wake up my pelvic floor after my second pregnancy without electrical stimulation therapy. That was before the days of biofeedback. I think what she is trying to do with the machine is to just get the muscles moving, whether contraction or relaxation. It is the movement of muscles through their (eventual) full range of movement that will return them to normal strength. In the absence of being able to do a lot of walking and whole body exercise this may be the only way to get them moving.

Pat, if the gaining of 30lb in weight over the last 2 years has corresponded directly with the worsening of your symptoms, it is probably important to try and lose that weight again. It will be better for your body because you will have less weight to carry around, as mobility in itself has become a challenge. It will be harder for you to even walk around, let alone exercise while you have this pain, so further weight gain may result from the sedentary lifestyle. Losing that weight again may be a daunting task (As if you need more challenges!) but it may be very important that you do it.

Stay in touch.

Louise

Just a quick update on session with p.t.I gave her copy of pages in book and NO she took issue but asked to keep them, what ever that means, I'm hoping she may have more time to read it. Very difficult to gain any understanding or ask questions in 50 mins.We seem to have a civil battle of wills, because I ask why and give my concerns. So I'm sure I am not usual pt.I was willing to stand and have machine hooked up.She had me do a plie type thing, but not like in book. Will have to reread section.Have to order belt, only wants me to do same with belt on. She had one I used. She looked at the copy I had of WWbelt ,was knowing of it and thought it good choose.Aside from feet far apart,She wants me to suck in breath when spread knees and bend down ,and let breath out as go up.Could use "kegel",but somantics again.THe feedback on screen of machine if correct gives me a look at what is happening somewhere.I would like comment re: breath,I don't know and it will be a while til belt comes. She has the DVD and I think it will fit some of her thinking.I got on my toes and she told me how this had affect on "pelvic" floor.I will check out tumeric, and I take a good cod liver oil liquid. Will be trying to watch what I eat and how much,Have been getting a real heavy full feeling in bladder. This p.t.has sent me back to the other pain p.t.but they will keep in touch. Both are full for schedule. The IPPS has good info on pelvic problems, just have not seen anything thus far on POP.I will just keep aware of body and stay tuned to site. Thanks for all your info and support. And it is time for lidocane and bed, will check in later. Pat
