Newbie with Prolapse, maybe rectocele?

Body:

So, I have stumbled across this site a few times and I haven't yet spent much time on here. I need to and will but I figured I should post here first.
I am 26, had my first vaginal birth after 3 previous csections at home in March of last year. Actually Thursday will be a year ago. My cs's were not really needed but at that time I had no idea. I listened to what the doc said and got induced, failed and csectioned to "save my baby" continued on until I learned about ICAN.

I chose a homebirth for my vbac, had a great midwife, doula hubby ect. I was 3 weeks late, my water was broke for 48 hrs before labor started. My little girl came after 8 hrs of labor. I felt while pushing her that I just had to push 3 times in a row and then I would have a break. I don't know if this made my problem now worse or not. we started in the tub but i didn't feel i was doing enough so we moved to the bed, to my back which is the worse position and i never expected myself to be laying on m y bed. it was what felt comfortable at that time and she was out in 5 mins. i tore on top and bottom felt the ring of fire pretty good. I just couldn't help at that point to continue to push like crazy. the mw said just let your body push the baby out and i just couldn't help the sensation. I feel maybe I pushed to much? I just couldn't control it.:( My daughter was great, healthy and 8lbs 8 oz. She flew out of me as soon as her head was out. She was also military position and right before that she was posterior.

I now how a prolapse, not outside the vaginal tissues but right there, barely inside. I was or thought I was making progress and I felt it move down like 2 months ago now but i could pin point feeling it move back down. I don't know why or what but I can only figure it was because I was wearing my daughter everyday for 3 weeks straight since my hubby started school and i was trying to do everything on my own? He works and goes to school both full time. It was just weird that I was laying their feeding her and felt it move down. ever since its been right back at the opening like it was for so long. I feel the progress was only made for a few months. With 4 kids, my hubby in school ect I haven't yet taken the time for myself to get back on track but I really miss my old vagina. I know thats weird but why can't my cervix be right back up inside me again?

I know there is things i need to do and I am going to order the book and dvd so I can learn more but I guess I am just looking for other woman who have felt the same way. We have a great sex life but sometimes its a little uncomfortable. I don't typically have a problem urinating or having a bp. Ijuice almost everyday so that really helps in that area and maybe I have a little rectocele not sure but it def doesn't feel normal. I don't have the heaviness or pain when sitting like I did when I first noticed this. Also I just purchased the jade pearl sea sponges for prolapse. I know they are for your period which I don't have as I am still nursing but the company said they can be used sorta like a pressary? Well... I can't get them damn things in and it hurts my skin. I trimmed it down and had it wet, but my uterus wont move up. My hubby helped me a moved it a tiny bit but my skin was so sensitive from it I had him stop. From that little bit of movement I felt like i couldn't have a bp for a hr or so. So no success with the sea sponges for this. have anyone used them?

Lastly after I had my daughter I did get seen by a nurse practitioner at a specialists office. She said he would repair my tear at the bottom but my mw said she was worried about the top one. I don't remember exactly how bad they were torn but the top was bruised bad. I don't have pain in those areas at all but I am wondering if you tore will it heal all the way? Or will the skin heal separately so they are still torn but healed if you understand what I am saying? just wasn't sure because I def don't look the same by my urethra area. After I had the prolapse I did see my regular dr who was a ob for many years and he said i should have someone else look at it but that he doesnt think i should do anything until I am done having children. I don't want surgery! I am overweight since my first son and used to wear tight clothes for many years, had 3 cs and apparently bad posture.
if you got through all this THank you... I am sorry this ended up being a book!

So what now? I need to change everything! Please HELP

Wow Junehy, that is one houseful of kids for one so young! Congrats to you. There are many women on this forum who have had complicated birth experiences. And then there’s the rest of us, who maybe didn’t have quite so much childbirth trauma, but we all have prolapse anyway! Welcome! You have lots and lots of help and company here, and if you’ve already ordered the book and video, then let’s just say that today is the first day of the rest of your life…… Glad you are giving Whole Woman a try before you let anyone else dictate what kind of treatment may or may not be in your best interest. - Surviving

Hi junehy2831 and welcome,
Thank you for your post. You've come to exactly the right place! There's a lot of experience and knowledge from many other women on this site to support you.

Congratulations on the birth of your bably little girl and your growing family too.

You mentioned various factors you thought might have contributed to your prolapse. You may well be right. I can identify with some of your experiences such as giving birth leaning back on the bed, episiotomy, caesarian... tight jeans, poor posture, lifting/pushing things... The more we learn about prolapse the more we can see what helps and doesn't help.

I'm so pleased you're going to get the book and the dvd/s. I found them really helpful and a great resource and support. I would advice anyone with prolapse to purchase these.

One thing to bear in mind is that the pelvic organs exist within quite a fluid environment and are fairly mobile. So the severity of prolapses may vary from day to day or change throughout the day. There are things that you can do which will exacerbate prolapse and things that you can do to reduce prolapse.

Sounds like you've got a uterine prolapse, that was my main symptom, so I do empathise! Some of the things that I found really helpful included: ww posture, ww exercises (ww dvd's), carrying things carefully and close to the front of my body, stewed fruit, gently pushing my cervix up if it's low followed by a forward bend when/if appropriate, forward bends, resting when/if possible if I'm tired and relaxation (I'm a great fan of Rick Hanson's budhist/neuro based relaxation website).. The pelvic organs are all connected, so improving the symptoms in one area will help the pelvic organs generally.

I'm not sure about the tearing and healing. It's been a year since the birth of your daughter so I'm thinking the tissues will have healed by now. It may not look/feel as before, but I wouldn't have thought there was any need for further surgery or stitching. However I'm not a nurse or doctor, so would be interested to hear what others think.

You've got a lot of demands on you that's for sure. I do hope you're able to prioritise looking after yourself alongside everyone else! Wishing you lots of rest and tcl wishes...
Best wishes, wholewomanuk

thank you for the replies, is there a place to buy or trade the books via a BST group? I am going to have to wait in order to get them all. I was given Down There the dvd but haven't done that one either. not sure who made that dvd but was told it would help. I will look up Rick Hanson but can you explain the stewed fruit? What is the benefit?

Hi junehy2831,

I'm reluctant to push you to spend money, and I'm not trying to sell stuff, but I personally felt it all made so much more sense once I had the DVD and the book. I was daunted by the prices but took the risk and it's been worth it for the number of times I've watched the DVD or referred to the book.

If you only choose one, I'd go for the First Aid For Prolapse DVD - it'll get you started and you can see exactly what the movements are. It has the whole workout on it plus a handy index at the end of the DVD explaining why the different movements are in there. Firebreathing is explained and demonstrated.

Well I am def going to buy them and I understand what your saying, I just need to wait a bit before I get the set:)
