pessaries

Hi

i found this intruiging web site of a book from the 1800's or so called "diseases of women and children". It describes making a pessary from a " pad of cotton wool with chickweek ointment to keep organs in place and to strengthen and tone the tissues,,, (p. 27) and also interesting astringent and tonifying washes

U all probably know my feeling's on the danger of taking herbs internally without supervision (i.e in drinks and pill's - in short dangerous lol) so that part of this book i'm not keen on...

But for me i wouldn't be keen on plastic/'r latex and those harmfull lubricants PLUS having to see the gyne any more than is abso-lutely neccesary for their fittings etc. *shudder!

Tailbone Orientation

Hi Christine My apologies for posting this again. I'm not sure where to post and I meant to post a new question, not reply to a question.

I'm new here and very interested, primarily because my wife has been diagnosed with a grade 2 Cystocele 2 months after having our first child. She's 40 yrs old and had a vaginal birht. I'm a structural bodyworker in the rolfing tradition and the "Posture" Christine recommends is right in line with my teachings. Thank you for this valuable information. As a movement observer, I see how bad body mechanics, like tucked tailbones and flexed knees, lead to all manner of pelvic issues. Unfortunately we get this misguided information from our yoga and pilates teachers. Add to this the "slump" posture that seems part of the western chair-sitting culture and we're in for trouble. We see much more natural posture in traditional cultures where people are squatting and carrying things on their heads.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY EVERYONE!

Sending all mothers lots of hugs and wishes for a splendid day with your loved ones. Let this be a reminder how blessed we all are and what a grand opportunity prolapse has given us to come back to live in our body in a much more intentional way than perhaps we ever would have in this lifetime. Blessings to you all - Brit and Aussie mums, too!

Hydroxyquinoline sulphate, not only Trimosan.

Hi everyone

Let's not pick exclusively on the manufacturers of Trimo-san. Aci-gel by Janssen-Cilag also contains hydroxyquinoline sulphate.

I imagine there are other products out there, which are suggested as useful when using a pessary, that contain this same active ingredient. I remember that it was suggested for me for use with the first pessary I had fitted over fifteen years ago. I have used it spasmodically ever since, particularly when I have had thrush. It also contains glacial acetic acid, so I have used it to try and acidify my vagina, which thrush does not like.

I think I will be going back to diluted vinegar douches after a shower. Can anybody tell me the correct dilution, or does it depend on the pH of the vinegar? Any food chemists out there???

DivaCup

Has anyone ever tried the DivaCup? I am wondering if it would help support the vaginal walls as well as the sea sponge as a more natural alternative to pessaries.

Does anybody have experience with Kegelmaster?

Hi everyone,

I am a mother of two little ones (3 and 1, thinking about a third one), paranoid about pelvic problems. I do not have any major problems right now -- I just want to do the right things to prevent any problems in the future. I am trying to exercise as much as I can and keep healthy habits... I have "Saving the Whole Woman" -- I have not yet finished reading it, but I am already trying to make changes based on what I have read... I also found this other book that has three levels of exercise programs designed specifically for women, I started that exercise program last week, I like it so far, but too early to see results.

Posture question

Ok - I've been working on the posture based on what I've seen to do on this site. I'm going to get the book soon, but didn't want to wait until it got here. And....my back is killing me! My lower back specifically. I assume it is just because those darn muscles are just not used to working. Anyone else experience this?

Also, the biggest thing I notice in the mirror when doing the posture (as I understand it) and when I don't is that my tailbone doesn't slump under. So, when I think "lumbar curve" and stick my behind out a little I really notice a tip of my pelvis where the front goes down and the back goes up. Does this sound right?

Toning stomach

I have a small build but after having a baby my stomach really sticks out in the posture. I haven't done any abdominal exercises since the baby so I'm sure that is a major factor. A handful of people have asked me if I'm expecting again and it is kind of depressing me. Are there any exercies I could do to help tone my stomach but not hurt the prolapse?

Another benefit of the posture

I have been trying the new posture for four months now and I am still uncomfortable. It seems to change with my cycle. I will have a few really good days but then a really rough week (a lot of pressure) even though I am doing the posture. However, on a good note, since using the posture I don't have anymore neck pain. I have had chronic neck pain since a car accident three years ago despite chiropractor and massage. However, since changing my posture, it rarely bothers me! Goes to show you that this posture is healing in other ways :)

Surgery scheduled for cyctocele....

I'm not sure what ppl are talking about as far as a book & video. Is this a website to sell something? I am looking for some help not a sales pitch. Sorry if that sounded bad but just got back from the colorectal surgeon who believes i now have rectocele. I have surgery scheduled for May 25th for my cystocele which I am having 2nd thought about. See last May I had a hysterectomy, I've had endeometriosis forever and been having back and abdominal and leg pain, gyno said he would do a lapraoscopy and if necessary a hysterectomy. I asked if he had to do it I wanted it done abdominally, not vaginally, he agreed... but he did it vaginally anyway. Anyway, this did not solve much of my pain, in Oct. I went to my regular doctor and insisted he send me for an MRI &/or CAT scan, he did and they found a tumor on my spine. Went to the neurosurgeon, had surgery 1/5/06, removed tumor at L5. Surgeon said while he was waiting for pathology to come back to him he was looking around and saw something suspicious at S2. I was sent for another MRI, & another tumor was found. Went for surgery 3/6/06, had a tumor removed at S2 & S4, he had to cut my nerve at S2 to get the tumor out which left me numb on my bottom, it has gotten better but will probably alway be somewhat numb. He couldn't get all of the tumor at S4 so I had to go for stereotatic radio surgery twice a week for two weeks (over 2 hours from home), just finished last thursday. Anyway, since the last surgery my bladder fell; I went back to my gyno and he said I needed surgery, which is scheuled for May 25th. Also after surgery I've been unable to move my bowels unless I use a stool softener or laxative. I went to the gastroenterologist, he gave me propolene gycol powder 2 times a day and sent me to the colorectal surgeon, as I left the doctor today all I could do is cry, he said the bladder thing and the bowel thing couldn't be done at the same time. I've had 3 surgeries in less than a year and feel no better, just more problems. To make things worse, when I had the second spine surgery, they had a drain in my back to drain spinal fluid and had me lay flat for 48 hrs, & removed the drain then lay flat for 6 hours. I told the nurse that night I felt wet on my gown, she did nothing the doctors came in the next day and said it was dry and I could go home. Went home, my sister in law brought over dinner and after dinner I could feel my back was wet so I had to go to the emergency room (hospital was over an hour away from home) and was re-admitted and the drain was put back in and I had to lay flat for 7 days. I'm sorry for rambling but I am at my wits end, I don't know what to do or who to believe. I've gone from someone that always took her vitamins, drank water, bought organic as much as possible to drinking propolene glycol, taking neurotin 3 times a day and percocet for pain more than I probably should though not every day. If anyone can offer any suggestions... I know I have a weird medical history here and not many ppl out there can relate to being numb. My gyno says the numbness has probably caused my muscles to be weak, the colorectal surgeon said no, one should have nothing to do with the other... both men, who is right? Thank you to anyone who can stand reading so much.... :)
