Rectoseal repair surgery?

Hi there

I am scheduled to have a rectoseal repair on Friday (yikes!) and am starting to get nervous about the surgery! The surgeon made it seem like a no biggie, but I am starting to hear horror stories about the pain, recovery time, long term affects etc. Is there anyone there that has had the surgery that can give me some first hand information? I am a 32 mother of 3, otherwise healthy. I have had the rectoseal for over a year and hate it.

My surgeon is proposing to tighten the muscles by pulling them in - not inserting any mesh or anything.

maybe silly question

Rectocele Surgery

Hi, I'm new and feel like I really need other women to talk to about all that's going on with my body.

I am 40 years old, very healthy with 4 amazing children!

Back in 1999 I had rectal prolapse surgery, the most painful thing I've ever been through. This past Monday, I had surgery for rectocele. We, me and my husband, joke about my body falling apart but when I really think about it it's depressing. I have always been very physically active. Now I'm told I can't ever do leg press or squats again. I'm willing to take this advice if it means never having to go through this type of surgery again.

I am due next week!

I am due with my second baby next week. Please send some good labour/delivery vibes this way. I am really hoping for a much better birth experience this time. I have been working with my midwife (had an OB last time) and we are going to try for all natural and gentle birth. I am kind of excited this time around.

Has anyone seen a physiotherapist?

I was wondering if anyone has seen one for them to teach them how to do the pelvic floor exercises. Did seeing them help any and was it a benefit? Thank you, Adriana

Postpartum -New here and sad :( is there any hope for this to get better?

Hi,

I have just discovered these forums because the other day, I noticed a bulge coming out of my vagina. I am 4 months post partum, and when I had my check-up 2 weeks ago, the doctor said my bladder was coming down a bit, but didn't seem concerned at that time. Everything felt okay until the other day when I felt the bulge, which I think is at least a grade 2 prolapse (?). In other words, it has definately worsened since I was at the doctor's.
I'm very sad because this is my first baby, I want to have several more, and I was really into babywearing - and now I notice the bulge gets worse after even a few minutes in the sling. I can feel it peeking out of me.

Worried about the way things look

I have a rectocele and I believe a cystocele. I am seeing a consultant next week which I am really concerned about having started to research into surgery and long term prognosis.I want to make an informed decision but have tried getting onto the site to purchase the book but so far have been unable.

Having read some of the discussions on this forum it is clear that there are many things I can do to improve the situation and may not have to resort to surgery. But apart from all the symptoms ie stress incontinence, feeling constantly full etc, I really hate the appeareance of my pelvic area. I have a reasonable large bulge from my rectocel and bulges in the upper area around my urethra. What I want to know from those who have avoided surgery is can this appearance be improved, especially the rectocele. I feel so un-womanly and ugly and although in a long term relationship feel really insecure!

Weaning

Hi, I am 16 wks PP. I discovered my cystocele @ wk 3. The urogyn I saw at week 4 gave me a grade 3. It has been a really tough couple of months.
I so love my baby, and love nursing, but have seriously been considering weaning to see if my cystocele improves.
I am very torn. I nursed my first son until he was 14 months, so this is a conflict for me in many ways.
I have started to realize that it's more important for my boys to have a happy mom than for the little one to get the breast milk and have a sad and frustrated mom.. but then what if i wean and this barely changes?

To those of you who have weaned, have you noted a significant change?
