Strengthening the core

Just having a little rant here. I think I will scream if I hear one more word about strengthening the core and only mentioning the rectus abdominus, obliques, transverse abdominus and erector spinae muscles!

How long will it take before these fitness experts realise that the core is strengthened by *trains of muscles* and other structures that go all the way to our tips of our toes and fingers? It is by no means limited to those particular muscles only, or only to muscles. The whole body is the core. The core cannot be divided off from its own extremities!

Function of pelvic floor

So we know what the pelvic floor does NOT do, such as hold up all our innards, as Christine has so gloriously explained. We know that the pelvic floor is essential in sphincter control for the anus, vagina, and urethra. However, I have seen may references to the fact that an intact pelvic floor is very important in managing POP, but I am hoping for a more detailed explanation as to the reasoning behind this, if the support system for our organs is largely structurally based.

broken tailbone

I am 55 years old. I discovered my cervix at the opening of my vagina while in the shower last May. Went immediately to my nurse practioner, who referred me to her personal urogynocologist. Appointment was in June. Examined me lying down, stepped back, said I had wrinkles in my vagina indicating total collapse of my pelvic vault. I was at the end of a cycle and had a severe case of yeast infection as I was battling UTI.

What diagnostic tool to diagnose prolapse?

I had a pelvic MRI and they didnt show anything except for some ovarian cysts. Im feeling the symptoms of a rectocele or some sort of prolapse. I can literally feel it and because I cant see a specialist at this time but have a general doctor able to send me for testing who isnt familiar with this I'd like to know what tests can be done to show any sort of pelvic prolapses. Or how any of you were diagnosed?

Gardening

Gardening is a big part of my life. I am never happier (except when I'm sitting nursing my baby) than when I'm planting, weeding, harvesting, gathering eggs, picking off bean ends, flipping through seed catalogs, etc. And then cooking it all, of course. :)

Louise gave me some great tips on how to haul heavy things around without hurting myself more.

Another Newbie - Placed into correct forum(?)

Sorry, I may have duplicated this in the forum, but very new here.
After the 1st hour at your site, ordered the book, DVD, etc., and ready to go. Thank you for this special place! But.. lots of thoughts and questions!

Who to trust?

After discovering I had a prolapsed cervix about 18 months ago I chose to go down the PT road instead of repair surgery. After 12 months of PT visits, hours and hours of exercises and hundreds of dollars later, I even bought the little gadget so I could be encouraged at my progress. I must admit I did get some fairly good results, until a recent colonoscopy sent my cervix south big time, some days it feels like it's hanging down to my knees and that my undies are the only thing stopping it from coming out completely.

Anyone heard of this bladder problem?

Today I am reminded of the ongoing issue I have with my bladder, as I have had to change my pants twice due to wetting myself. Once in the bathroom, I realize that my bladder was very, very full. But I could never tell you, otherwise. I feel no bladder spasms to indicate my bladder is full. For a while, I was having nausea and dizziness as an indicator, but even that has gone away, now. I suspect it is prolapse-related, even though it began a few months before I delivered my cervix the first time.

The bump is making me leak!

And it is driving me up the wall.

First off...the morning sickness is mostly completely done (just once in a blue moon). Stopped the beginning of Jan! So glad to be feeling a little more human! fundus is good 2 inches above pubic bone, morning sickness stopped 4 weeks before I expected but doc thinks I am still only 12 1/2 weeks.?!??!?
