Doctor doubts - need a little support...

Hi ladies,
I saw my urologist for the first time today since my baby was born 5 months ago and since I developed mild uterine prolapse and cystocele and a more prominent rectocele. I went to see him for regular treatment of my interstitial cystitis (painful chronic bladder condition) and he started discussing my prolapses, telling me I needed surgery for my rectocele. I explained why I didn't want it, and that rectoceles usually come back anyway. He just said, 'Well, now is the time to do it when you're young and your tissues are stronger. You'll have a better result. I'd hate to see your rectocele get worse!' He kept saying it! Anyway, I'm so convinced I don't want surgery, but he scared me a little. He didn't really listen to me much. Although he tried to be understanding, he's one of those doctors who is convinced he knows whats best and that I don't understand my body. Anyway, I'm just feeling a little scared and depressed, I want to be able to manage my rectocele on my own, but he kept acting like it was just going to get worse....

Need some info on Hawos Grain Mill

I have the "Diet for the Whole Woman" book by Christine, and
I am in the process of transitioning my eating habits. By the
way, very good advice in there.

I was wondering about the Hawos Grain Mill advocated by Christine,
maybe Christine if she has the time or anybody else who
has had experience with them: I am looking at the Mill 1 and the
Mill 2. The Mill 1 I can get on the internet here in the U.S., but
the more heavy duty one, the Mill 2, you have to order directly from Germany.
I'm not sure but it looks like the electricals on the Mill 2 are not
compatible with the American electrical currents is that correct? Or better

A tip for regular and easy bowel movements

I was reading Bigmomma's post and I thought that I should share the info about a product which has helped with my diffulties in the bathroom. (I know this site is really hard trying not to be commercial, but as this has been SO HELPFUL to me...) I've taken this Flax Fiber called FiberSmart and it has been just... a saviour. I never really had a problem with hard stool but with rectocele it seems like having bowel movements is just simply difficult. It seems like the stool, no matter how soft, is hard to pass... When I have taken this product, it just makes it happen. The stuff is not just fiber but it has something else in it which really helps the stool to "glide out".

Research

Hi everyone,

Just discovered this great site which has literally thousands of research abstracts on many health topics, including many relating to pelvic organ prolapse.

www.pubmed.gov

If any of you are like me, you will spend hours reading through these. There are several interesting ones describing the incidence of pelvic organ prolapse in women. It really is quite high!

Enjoy.

Michelle.

Digestion of meats

I've seen it mentioned on this site that eating meat causes some people here problems. I'd like to share my own experience if I may. :)

Since I passed 40, I had to start watching what I ate. Greasy foods would cause indigestion, and last year, I started getting gastric reflux sometimes when I would try to eat some meats, especially fried chicken. It was quite distressing, but it did not burn. It was just neutral pH fluid coming up my throat from my stomach, making swallowing the food difficult.

I discovered in some reading I was doing that some people have abnormally low stomach acid secretion. This impairs their ability to digest proteins and fats, and causes indigestion, heartburn, and a host of other problems throughout the intestinal tract. The shortages of fatty acids and proteins impair all sorts of systems throughout the whole body and cause a cascade of failures of various sorts. Treatment is to take a supplement called betaine HCl, which is a powdered form of acid that lowers the pH of the stomach fluid so that digestion of fats and protiens can take place.

external support

right now my 'celes are not bothering me. my belly's starting to get bigger and I can feel the loss of lumbar curve. try as I might, I can't get into a good WW posture. upper body is ok, lower body has surrendered to the process of growing a baby.
I was wondering if I should be proactive and wear one of those V2 support things, or the prenatal cradle, just to help prevent problems later on? I guess no one knows, really, but I appreciate your thoughts.

E-string bother rectocele

I've been using e-string as I'm menopausal, hysterctomized, and allergic to glycols (all 7 or 8 of them...propylene glycol, butyl glycol etc.) and all parabens in Premarin vaginal cream and any other vaginal creams on the North American market (pharmaceutical grade ones that is!). Compounded estrogens have sketchy levels of estrogen in them and seem to cause bladder infections, likely due to improper sterilization of olive oils or purifed waters used in them.

Anyway, does anyone have problems with the sensation of e-string putting pressure on rectum? Am I crazy or is this just me? Is this perhaps because e-string slides down vagina? In some ways e-string acts like a pessary and helps vaginal support, but in other ways it seems to make rectal problem worse? Does anyone have an explanation for this or a similar problem?

Questions on Rectocele and Cystocele Surgery

I am almost 57 and I need to have corrective surgery for a #3 Rectocele and a #3 Cystocele...I have constant UTI's and am always constipated. If I strain to go to the bathroom I just feel terrible after that in my bladder, rectum and lower back..Sex is painful and I've lost interest in that.Of course that's been hard on my husband. .My doctor is going to do both surgeries..He is a board certified Urologist..That is one of my questions. Does a Urologist do the rectocele? I really need some advice on that..He's also going to use a mesh net sling to put under the neck of my bladder to lift it up..it will come up through two small incisions in the bupic area.

two hernias, causing discomfort with bladder and bowel elimination

I am new here, and looking for answers, and a better understanding of what is happening to me.

I do not want to post a long dissertation here. I saw a GYN doc this week, it was my first time to see him, he was patient and tried to be informative-but I left with confusion. Will go back next week for a bladder test (voiding), not sure of name.

I am 56, have 3 grown children and am overweight (5ft. 3in., 191 lbs.) I do consider myself to be very active, although I am not excercising now. I work part time and recently quit one of my jobs which required heavy lifting.

Your forum seems to be very informative and kind in your comments,
