Long term effects of rectal prolapse?

Hi Christine,

I have a rectal prolapse, it occured after the birth of my daughter almost 2 years ago. I have no pain from it and really very little discomfort, the only time I really notice it, is if I am constipated, which I very seldonly am. I am aware of it, as it obviously sits lower than it used to, when I am sitting in a bath tub I can feel it touch the bath tub. I am wondering of the long term effects, is this going to ger worse over time, can exercise reverse it or perhaps maintain it.

Thanks for taking the time out to answer my questions.

Where's the thread?

I'm trying to follow a thread (topic: cystocele). I posted a reply to new member "babushka" earlier today. There were one or two other replies to her initial post as well. Now I cannot find the original post or the replies. I checked my account and the reply I posted today is not listed there either. Can anyone explain??
Thank you,
Jean

Sharing the Wisdom

Hello, I hope everyone is doing well. Christine, I want to thank you again for the encouraging book and all the wonderful information you have shared and I wish to seek out your advice for a new situation. Any the thoughts and advice of all the other corageous women here.

The last time I talked with my Grnadmom I found out she had been diagnosed with a rectocele and rectal prolapse (it appears the lower portion of her colon is falling into her rectum) she was very upset and heartbroken about this (which we all can relate to). Of course her doctor told her surgery was the only option. I was so happy to inform her of your book, thoughts and ideas. I sent her the copy of my book. I wish I could direct her to this website but she has no computer is is uninterested (I also think she is a little scared of technology) in getting one. The next time she visits I can't wait to show her the forum and wonderful information here!! I am so happy to having a book like this to pass along (even if someone young like me is passing it on to her Grandmom!).

Acupuncture Support

I'm just new to this forum after being told yesterday by a Western Medical Doctor that I needed to have surgery for my second degree vaginal prolapse. I've already been through so many surgeries, ending with a total hysterectomy, that the thought of one more is just not an option unless its a matter of life and death. So, I decided to get online and see what support there was for alternative methods of treating this.

I've been working with an acupuncturist for the last several weeks and now I'm hoping that the exercises in Christine's book (when I receive it) will also add some support. I'm writing to see if there are others out there that have used acupuncture along with the excercises and what results you've gotten. My acupuncturist, whose specialty is gynecology, feels that its reasonable to expect good results from the acupuncture alone.

Quietly optimistic about kegels

I have to share my experience with kegels as I feel pretty optimistic that it has reversed a mild prolapse that I had. Almost a year ago, I felt a slight bulge around my vaginal area after straining on the loo. I began kegels straight away and although my doctor recommended me for surgery I wasn't that keen to go down that path. Now 11 months later I am pretty sure that this bulge I had is gone. It has come and gone over the last 11 months but now seems to have gone for good. I do a kegel tightening to the count of 10, relax for count of 10, and repeat 10 times. I do this 4 times a day at set times (breakfast, lunch, dinner and before bed). Also if I think of it, I do a 5 times repeat at intervals during the day. I would like to share this because it has taken 11 months for this reversal to stabilise and it has certainly been worth it for me to persevere. Perhaps others could get to this point as well with patience.

Christine's excerise works

Hi to all, I have been doing Christine's excerises for about a year. I have
stage 3 prolapse, am 59 and always thought I was in pretty good shape. I have been feeling really good, so Sunday I decided to do some yoga and some
ab work (my brain still tells me no pain no gain) to my suprise (sic) today my prolapse is back full force. So it's back to Christine's video and my ab tape went in the trash. As soon as I went back into the posture and relaxed a little I was feeling better. This is a way of life for me now and I believe it's not the worst thing that can happen to a woman. Thank's to all and a special thank you to Christine.

My c-section surgical report

I was cleaning out an old notebook and found my surgical report from c-section-- which I never would have seen except that I requested my records when I planning my homebirth. It really makes me feel sick when I read what they did to my body and I wonder how in the world a c/s could ever be proported as a pelvic organ saver when they compromised my whole system with their scalpel.

"A Pfannenstiel incision was made on the skin, carried down through the subcutaneous tissue to the fasia. The fascia was identified, nicked and incised bilaterally. Fascia was dissected from the rectus muscles blunt and sharp dissection. Midline was separated bluntly. Peritoneum was enterered bluntly...."

I think I have a rectocele now...

Well, I thought I was doing pretty well for the past almost 2 years since I got the prolapse(I'm 30 now!!!), but yesterday I had a combination of loose/diarrhea and some problems "finishing". I noticed a squishy area in the back of the vaginal wall. Oh, and have my period all at the same time(yuck!) Now, it just feels fuller and gross. I am just a little concerned about the sex part, we don't do it very often(couple times a month or so) but, am worried that it will hurt. And, of course hoping that it doesn't get to a bad point. My son is almost 2 and I just can't imagine becoming pregnant with all of this going on.
