Episiotomy Vs Natural tearing.

I have question...

I had an episiotomy with baby no.1 as she was stuck and in a twisted position so a failed ventouse and then forceps delivery. My Cystocele 'arrived after baby no.2 (2 and a half yrs later). I had a tear with baby no.2.

I am assuming that my episiotomy contributed to the cystocele but is there really an alternative with a forceps birth?

Wouldnt a natural tear be just as bad for the pelvic floor as an episiotomy?

Just wondering.....

prolapse getting worse and I'm getting panicky

...and depressed, and frustrated, and pissed off. :(

Almost two weeks ago, I was out shopping, and when I got the parking lot, I realized DS would need his diaper changed before we drove home. So I did it right there. Not really thinking, I stood behind him (trying to shield his nekked butt from other shoppers) and leaned over him. After several of seconds of this, I realized something was wrong and stood up. As I did so, I experienced several seconds of lower abdominal pain. I immediately feared that I had worsened my cystocele. But I was due to leave on vacation the next day (for three weeks) out of the country and tried not to think about it. I thought there maybe could be other explanations, and I already had an appt scheduled with an OB already, for when I came home. It stopped hurting, so I went on my way.

hernia or lipoma? - off topic

Hi, this is not related to my prolapse (I think) but I was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to get information about femoral hernia vs. lipoma (fatty benign tumor). I have a bump at the top of my right thigh. The nurse who saw me was pretty sure it was NOT a hernia but since it was close to the lymph nodes she sent me for consultation with a surgeon to see if biopsy was necessary. Anyway, surgeon says he was pretty sure it WAS a femoral hernia because it was an unusual place for lipoma(limpoma?sp?)and just the place for the hernia but he said either way I would want to have surgery, since if it was limpoma it would get bigger and get uncomfortable and be more difficult to remove. My husband has a lipoma on his arm for years and it doesn't seem to change really. It feels just like my husband's lipoma on his arm.

I don't really want surgery if it is a lipoma, but I know for a hernia I guess I have to have surgery since it could strangulate. For some reason I don't trust this surgeon. I wish I trusted doctors more, I don't know if it is my paranoia about doctors that is making me question or if there really is something amiss with the surgeon I saw.

How do I know if something I am doing is doing damage?

Good morning -

I am slowly trying to get myself to be more active and have tried walking a little more often. I went swimming the other day and everything seemed to fair quite well. I was reading some of the other posts that say that doing the whipkick in the breaststroke will put unwanted pressure on the pelvic floor, but I tried to pay attention to what I was feeling and didn't feel any discomfort. There was a little soreness in the pubic area, where my legs meet the pubic bone. I am not sure if this is because of the prolapse or because I am still healing from pushing out a 9.5 lb baby.

Avoiding Surgery

It's good to see this kind of stuff in "main stream media."

what is 'straining'?

I can't remember if I've ever seen this addressed, but here's my problem: I always see women commenting on here that they worry when they have to strain to poo because it could aggravate the rectocele. I guess I've been a little prone to constipation my whole life, so I don't even KNOW if I'm 'straining' or not. As far as I can tell, you always have to bear down a little in order to evacuate - it doesn't just propel itself right out while I completely relax. Or am I wrong? I also don't want to aggravate the rectocele, but I don't know how much of a push is too much. I'm not turning red in the face and grunting or anything... I hope this isn't too specific and I hope someone even knows a 'guideline' I can use :P

Body clone

And while I am on the topic of dressmaking, a year or so ago I made a body clone, ie a model of myself in duct tape. How on earth?? You may well ask, and why??

I am a funny shape, and clothes never fit me off the rack because I have one shoulder slightly higher than the other, one boob slightly droopier than the other, my arms are joined on to the wrong part of my shoulders, my widest measurement is 2inches below my waist which is the smallest measurement, and my hip measurement is meaningless. Get the picture?

I can at last make and alter clothes so that they fit me, hang properly and the shoulder straps don't fall off anymore.

Suspender belts

I am sick to death of not being able to get thick tights with a big enough panty part! And sheer tights that fit in the legs and in the panty part!

I just hate having tight pantihose that grabs you all over, and is tight in the crutch, and compresses my belly (Firm and flattering I think they call it! ROFL)

Now, let's go back in history, pre-pantihose. I never did like the feel of pantihose as a teenager, but the alternative was not acceptable at all, and I wouldn't be caught dead wearing stockings (which weree so passee!). Pantihose were oh so fashionable, and oh so simple, oh so light, and oh so bl***y uncomfortable. A bit like margarine actually - a marketing coup. It still takes like S*** after all these years! LOL

anyone tried suspenders?

Hi, all! I tried something new today -- suspenders! I had had a bad day yesterday, I think because some pants I wore were pulling down on my abdomen. I'm not ready to give up jeans completely yet. I had cut the front of the waistband off already to make them friendlier but still they pulled down on my belly. Today I borrowed an old pair of my husband's suspenders. They are elastic and adjustable. I hooked them onto the pants underneath my shirt, which I wore loose, not tucked in, and no one could tell. They made the pants weightless! I didn't hitch them up once during the day even after sitting and standing back up. They floated up off my belly and kept a nice distance in the crotch too, not bagging down or pulled up too tight.

Pessaries

Have any of you found the pessary to be helpful at all? What does it consist of and what are your experiences with this? I am leaning towards getting one if I am not better in a few weeks. I have to go back to work in 4 weeks (as a waitress) and do not have a choice. My family depends on my income and my employer has already given me an additional 3 weeks paid off for maternity leave. I am in no pain whatsoever, doing kegals, and recently started the posture, however, just the heavy feeling is annoying me. I would like to be able to do laundry again, clean my house, and go to the store without feeling of heaviness.
