Pessaries - removable or not?

On Thursday my doctor is due to insert a pessary in me for the first time. In the UK, unlike the US, pessaries are changed by the nurse every 3 months and remain permanently in place between times, unless there is a problem, so having one put in is quite a commitment. Until finding this site, I thought a pessary was the only alternative to surgery, but now I'm not so sure. I think the ideal would be a pessary I could put in when I wanted, but I do just wonder if the putting in and taking out is in itself stressful for the tissues, which after menopause are obviously not very robust.

Topical oestrogen

I am 66 and have just been terribly shocked to discover a POP that had got to the bulging stage before I realised anything was happening. My doctor prescribed me 15 topical oestrogen tablets to use in preparation for having a pessary inserted. After using only 2, my pelvic organs are transformed from almost uncontrollably ballooning and slithery into almost too hard and firm, albeit a funny shape. Like this, I no longer really have a problem. But is continuing to use oestrogen an option? I imagine I was naturally very low in oestrogen, as I am very thin.

frustrated & getting worse

hi. i first posted at 3 weeks pp, with terrible rectocele/BM issues. now i'm 11 weeks pp, and all those problems have improved dramatically. but just as i was starting to feel much better, physically and emotionally, my cystocele seems to be getting radically worse. in the mornings i feel fine, but by early afternoon, the bulge gets bigger and by evening it's so uncomfortable i feel like crying.

I need help with rectocele

I am at the point I think where it only gets worse before it gets better. I went to a gastrointestinal doctor because of the ongoing bloating I have and a fissure(s) since my daughters birth that still haven't healed. He said that I don't get enough fiber. He said even though I have a bowel movement once a day by the sounds of it I am constipated. This past week I have really been working on my diet. I have been having at least 8 glasses of water a day. I took two stool softeners, some psyllium fiber plus for breakfast I had oatmeal, flax and fruit.

introducing myself, a few questions about getting started

Hi ladies,

I wrote a somewhat frantic post in the pregnancy section, wondering about the connection (if any) between a damaged perineum and prolapse, but I thought I'd come here (as I'm already realizing that "lifestyle" is what I'm going to have to focus on, prolapse or no!) and introduce myself.

Older women, urgency at night, front sleeping

Hi all you wise old crones and aspiring wise old crones

Many older women (and men too) wake during the night with the need to pee, maybe several times. I think this may be because the bladder is in an unnatural position when we are sleeping and gets easily irritated by pressure from other organs and structures.

DVD region format for Australia?

I was just wondering if the new DVD is able to be played on DVD players formatted in the Australian region? Are there any Australians you have ordered and successfully played the DVD. I know I've had problems with this in the past when I've ordered DVDs overseas.

Many thanks in advance

sick baby

I need some help from our wise mamas (all of you!) after a disturbing experience yesterday.

Dd and I spent most of yesterday in a pediatric urgent care center with my darling 2-year old granddaughter who’s been sick since last Thursday. When she awoke yesterday morning feverish, hacking, completely out of it, and screaming Ow! Idonlikeit! Idonlikeit!! dd and I decided we needed help with the situation. So we bundled her up and took her to urgent care.

My worsening menstrual pain

Is starting to scare me a bit here girls. I've had to dip into my anxiety flower essence - I'm scared. Since my injury 1 1/2 yrs. ago... I've had a whole variety of difficult periods but they keep getting more and more painful. And constant inflammatory pain through my whole pelvis and even into the connective tissue in my hips instead of the more ebb and flow of the "contraction" like cramps in the past - but I've always had hard cramps.

Fine - I'll just monitor my Aspirin levels to avoid any dips in defense against those angry little pirate prostaglandins. (sp.?)
