END OF THE SURGICAL AGE

As teenagers soaking up the sun in our itsy bitsy bikinis, who amongst us would have believed that one day we would be walking around with a strip of plastic mesh surgically implanted under our urethra and another suspending our vagina to our spine?

“What horrible thing will have happened in the world to make it so?” we would cry. “Radiation ? Cancer? Atomic bombs?”

“No”, we would be told. “These are the ways the future doctors of the world will treat common and benign conditions of motherhood, the same occasional dribbles of pee-pee or vaginal bulges women have always lived with and even quietly joked about.”

Rectocele Update

Hi All,

I was recently diagnosed with a Grade 1 Rectocele. At this time my Urogynecologist says no pessaries, no surgery and if I were to go into Physical Therapy, it would "send me over the top". The reason he says this is because I have low back problems with nerve pain. Anyway, doing exercises and such is what sent me to them in the first place. I was in severe pain with them. I had a proctogram done by the way and the barium backed up into the rectocele (no matter that I upped water, fiber, etc.) and caused me to go to the ER. So, two enemas and a pain shot later, the barium eventually came out.

Breastfeeding and Posture

Hey,
I noticed while I was breastfeeding I didn't have very good posture at all on the couch.
I started to nurse on the floor holding Christine's posture. I used a "boppy" pillow propped on my knees. I suppose other pillows could be used also to hold baby. This has "forced" me (conveniently)into holding the posture many times a day, with the exception of nightly feedings. I have noticed a difference with things already and my baby is 5 weeks old.
Just wanted to share with you new moms:)

Breaststroke

Just got back from appointment with top gynae doctor. He urged me not to let anyone touch me surgically (so there are some honest doctors out there!). I have mild cystocele. He said swimming was a good exercise. Alot of people have told me front crawl is better than breaststroke for prolapse, but I hate front crawl and have always loved breaststroke. I feel like exercise options are so narrowed down now, I'd love to be able to carry on with breaststroke. Has anyone else got any views or experience on this?

Many thanks.

Why not?

I have been pondering over how neurosurgeons can repair the most delicate and intricate kinds of nerve damage after traumatic injury with reasonable success, depending on the situation. Why is it then that surgeons cannot repair the ligaments and fascia of the pelvic floor where damage has been incurred? Surely this kind of surgery cannot be any more microscopic or intricate than repairing nerves??? I wonder if anyone is even trying to develop these techniques or whether the tried and tested (???) surgical methods to "treat" POP are all that are being pursued?

Just a thought. I wonder if anyone has any others relating to this?

Post-hysterectomy prolapse

Just so we’re clear that post-hysterectomy prolapse is a very real problem, in 1999 there were 30,000 surgical procedures performed in the US to correct prolapse of the vaginal vault.

Help For Spouse

Hi I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post this. I am having a really hard time getting my family "my husband" to understand my prolapse. He dosent realize that even just standing is very hard for me. Is there any literature or support for the family of women living with prolapse. I know that may sound funny but I have a severe uterine, rectocele, cystocele, and bladder incontinence. SO my daily activites are becoming very limited. I also have small children which require alot of "mommy time". We are a young couple i'm, 32 he's 29. I think sometimes he thinks I am exagerating. Because he is a man and has know idea.

Urinary Incontinence

I am a new member to this site. I have already recieved tons of invaluable info. I have decided to not have surgery after finding this site and countless hours of research . I am 32 & have severe uterine prolapse, rectocele, cystocele. Just recently Ihave noticed I am losing bladder control. I am scared to death. I don't know if any one has experianced this. It's very little now, for it has jsut started happening. It seems that since Ive made the decsion to not have the surgery. It is getting worse. I can't stand at all. Which is impossible not todo. Please if anyone has advice as to how to manage this, espescially the incontinence problem, any comments are welcome.

Pessary causing problems?

As a pessary user, I am concerned about some references I've seen suggesting that pessaries used to relieve cystocele symptoms may contribute to development of rectocele. I use a donut pessary for moderate/severe cystocele. Ultimately I hope through posture work, exercise, diet etc. to achieve the level of comfort without the pessary that I now enjoy with it, BUT I certainly don't want to cause a different problem in the meantime. I would appreciate any comments on this.

Thanks (:
Jean

Getting the Diet book

Hi

Is there anywhere else I can get your Diet for the Whole Woman book to avoid the high shipping costs? I am really interested in it now that I will soon stop nursing.
