What exercise is safe?

Hi,
I have been labeled with 5 prolapses. What exercise will not put added stress on the pelvic organs? If weight lifting how much is too much? What abdominal ex. if any to strengthen the muscles without pushing down on the bladder and other pelvic organs is okay? I know swimming is good but with my menapausal dry fragile hair it is not necessarily the best. Thanks

Breathing and posture

I realize that posture is very important, and I can also feel that my breathing has an impact on my prolapses. Should I be inhaling out into my belly, up into my lungs, or some combination of the two? Should I try to pull in my belly with every exhale? I'm just not sure how to breathe in the posture...
Thanks!
Michelle

where do I go from here

I have had five children. Never a problem that I knew of until last year when my bladder started acting up. Two of my children are considered traumatic births. One child was born with forceps and my last baby weighted ten pounds. He is now twelve and I am 50. I was instructed to stand up because I couldn't push his head out. I pushed for over an hour in that position. The ob/gyn told me the following day that the event was a marathon. At the time I had no idea that large babies together with gaining 50 pounds would ultimately cause so many problems. I am 5' 6" and weigh 123 presently. It is funny but I wore a bra night and day in order that my breasts would not become so saggy down the road. It worked pretty well considering I nursed for 8 years. If the doctor had been more preventive minded and explained the ramifications of too much weigh gain I would have avoided those nightly Dove bars! He also never mentioned kegels.

3months postpartum - does this sound familiar?

Hi ladies,
I'm new here and have a couple questions... About 3 weeks postpartum I realized I had fairly prominent rectocele and that my cervix was dipped down as well. My doctor has confirmed that I have a somewhat mild uterine/bladder prolapse and a worse rectocele. He has referred me to a physical therapist who specializes in this stuff, at least to hopefully help the uterus/bladder issues. He said nothing is going to fix the rectocele except surgery, and that if I can't live with it he'll repair it. I'm now 3 months postpartum, and still not coping well. I'm pretty scared of surgery, but I have some questions:

Meditation bench as an aid to posture?

I'm struggling to use proper posture while seated. By the end of the day my lower back is achy and just too tired, so I end up slouching which feels even worse. Has anyone used a meditation (seiza) bench, and if so, would you recommend it for long periods of sitting/kneeling?

Thanks for any comments!
Jean

This sucks

Is it too awful to talk about? It seems pretty awful right now. I have just discovered my prolapse 7 weeks after a traumatic vaginal birth. I’m freaking out. I even smoked cigarettes! I’m trying to take care of my baby who needs constant physical therapy due to the difficult birth. The last thing I need is for my uterus to fall out. Now, I can't gripe without noting the positives; of which are two--I have a supportive helpful partner and really good baby who rarely cries and sleeps through the night. Thankfully, mom is on her way here from another state. But you know what?? That’s hard to remember when I am nearly paralyzed with the fear my innards could possibly tumble out.

Antiposture and Perenial pain

Hi everybody,

I am so frustrated with myself: I have mastered the "antiposture". I am amazed at the number of times I find myself correcting my posture. My knees are locked, my belly tucked, my back slouched and my shoulders raised! Unbelievable! Anyway, I am trying, though.... Grrrr...

Well, the main reason I am here is because I wanted to ask a question. I have been feeling this pain today. The best way I can describe it is my perinium feels too stretched. When I contract my pelvic muscles some (pulling up the perinium), the pain goes away. If I contract too strongly, the pain appears again. I think I felt this after birth (because of stitches), but I gave birth 1.5 yrs ago and have never felt this since then. Does anybody have any idea what this could mean? It is not like it is very painful -- it is more like a discomfort or an unpleasant feeling.

Vaginal Dryness... I found something that helps!

I was having such a problem with this, and while seaching all over the place I found something called New Mama Bottom Spray they have a Balm too. It's from www.EarthMamaAngelBaby.com. It has all kinds of herbals in it, it's to soothe the area after you give birth and for hemmoroids etc.

prolapse and race

In an earlier post we’d talked about white women comprising the major percentage of those with prolapse symptoms. I think that observation by surgeons was probably skewed and is in need of revision. I’ve since found several studies on large populations of military women where no racial differences were noted. :-)
