Were you very exercise conscious before POP???

Just curious,
How many of you were really fit before your POP? I am interested in the theory about the tissue being too rigid rather than too weak. It would be interesting to do a survey and see what percentage were very active - in what way, and what percentage were quite sedentary.

Problems with Fascia?

Hello, Ladies:

I've read a couple of posts on the websites of urogynecologists who do the prolapse repair surgeries. Some are convinced that most cystoceles are caused by "paravaginal defect," meaning that the fascia on either side of the vagina is torn, which leads to the bladder being able to fall backward. I looked at their sites, which have drawings of a paravaginal defect repair in progress. They are saying that the bladder "suspension" procedures are the wrong answer in cases when a paravaginal defect led to prolapse. It makes sense, within my understanding of the problem.

Breathing Excercise for Constiatipation---Question for Christine

Hi Christine,
My therapist had me practice this exercise to help with constipation and Im wondering what you and others thought about it. She is trying to get my sphincter to bulge out which doesnt make sense for me wouldnt it make the prolpase worse?

Sitting postures.

Hi,
What is the best way to sit in ones car while driving? I've altered the back of my car seat to be as upright as possible. Is there anything else?
Also sitting at other times, I've found that sitting upright, knees spread and with my ankles slightly crossed below the seat seems to work although not too elegant looking. Does this sound ok?

Pain after doing Kegels on Slant Board

My symptoms used to be feeling bulge in the perineum like the size of a gulf ball. As instructed by a therapist i was on a slant board and did some kegel exercies and noticed immediate pain and burning in the vaginal area. Im no longer feeling the bulge in the perineal area. Did I make it worse by doing this? I never had pain in the vaginal area before. It almost feels like it moved more forward from the perineum into the vaginal walls. Im really worried that I made it worse. Could this be possible? Is this a setback? IM not sure what I can do to correct this.

Good news, improvement! - hope for other new Mums

I just wanted to post an update since the short time I have been a member, for all those recently diagnosed with POP. I am now 4 months pp and things with POP have gradually improved with a few setbacks here and there.

I have just had a follow up appt with gyno and apparently have gone from a 'very large' rectocele to grade 1 in 2 months! She also said the tissue is much better. I have been feeling a lot better but do go up and down with symptoms - have to be careful not to overdo things. I just wanted to give some hope for other new Mums out there.

A lovely website for Indian (subcontinent) women

Hi Everyone

I have stumbled upon a wonderful website for Indian women, who live in India or other parts of the world. It is www.indusladies.com . It is so similar to Wholewoman in the way they look after each other and help each other to solve problems and share insights. They have a community Forum with 300000 members (!).

baby backpack carriers

I had our little 16 pound 5 month old in the backpack for a couple of hours yesterday and I feel like my prolapse has worsened. The backpack works by resting on my hips and shoulders.... any recommendations for backpack carriers? Non-western women surely had to cook dinner with a large infant on their back... :)x

excercises

What do you do if you are not able to do like sitting on your feet for sitting or the beginner excercises or cross legged. I am so stiff and am 61.
Can I still do the cross leg as far down as I can and still do the excercises or will it do damage amd make the situation worse?

This is the start of some topics about femininity. I'll start with Hair.

What do you think about femininity? What an enormous topic. I have always been a bit of a tomboy, so discovering prolapse suddenly made me sit up and take notice of my female bits. DH and others have told me me that having babies humanised me. I think POP feminised me (weird, I know!).

I think it suddenly gave me a reason for carrying myself in a way that showed that I was definitely female, and the reason was that to maintain my bodily integrity I wanted to retain my uterus and leave my sexual organs unaltered. To do that I had to avoid surgical repairs.
